In this article we are going to tell you about Resistor like what is Resistor, how Resistor works, Types of Resistor, Usage of Resistor and much more. Because Resistor is also used in very large quantities, that is why you need to know about it. By the way a resistor is only part of an electronic, that is, a component. So let us now know about Resistor.
What is Resistor :
Resistor is called passive component which is used to reduce current flow. Although many people also say that Resistor work is to stop the current but it does not stop the current, rather it reduces the current flow, that is, the current is reduced or it helps to prevent some amount of current. But does not stop. As the Zener diode or transformer and Zener diode is used to reduce the voltage, the Resistor is designed to reduce the current's amps. But the resistor can reduce the current as well as the voltage but to some extent ie only a small amount while the main work of the resistor is done to reduce the current. So that such devices can be run which run at low current ie low amps.

What is Resistor |
You should also know about the Resistor that the Resistor is very small and despite being small, it works a lot. Due to the lowering of current, if you put it in the middle of the circuit, then there is no danger of the circuit rotting due to sudden high amps in the circuit because there is a resistor in the middle, which is the limited amount of current i.e. amps Will go forward and it depends on how many ohms of Resistor you are putting in the circuit.
What Resistor does :
Resistor does two tasks, the first of which is to reduce current and the second task is to protect the circuit due to current fluctuations. This is the only two tasks of a Resistor.
Resistor Definition :
Exciting and controlling current is the main job of this resistor.
Resistor is made up of :
There are many types of resistors and all types are made of different materials but we are going to tell about the simple resistors which are made of carbon and it is located in the middle of both terminals inside the resistor and above it Is painted and lines are applied to identify Ohms value of Resistor with different colors. Apart from this, copper wire is also used in place of carbon powder inside some resistors. You must be aware that two terminals are connected to run the Resistor and there is no need to look at the positive and negative terminals as they can be installed in the circuit. There are also some types of graphite in front of resistor in which graphite is also used.
What is resistance :
Before proceeding, it is very important to know about the resistance, only then you will get to know about the resistor because resistance also has a very important role over the resistor. Resistance is that which is seen in something or the other and resistance only reduces the flow of current or current. As the higher the resistance is in the wire, the lower the current will go further. Because resistance causes the current to stop moving forward. You can also consider resistance as a stone, as the higher the stone on the road, the lower your speed will be and if you do not have a stone then you will be able to run as fast.

What is resistance |
As the value of resistance decreases in a wire, the amount of current is equal b. For example, more resistance means more obstruction in current and less resistance means less obstruction in current. Less obstruction means only a slight decrease of current and more resistance means that the current is reduced to a very low level.
How Resistor Works :
Resistor does not have a very specific way of working. Because inside it there is only ordinary copper wire or carbon powder or graphite so that the current can be passed. The current is low, putting such a substance inside it, where the value of resistance is high. Because the higher the resistance, the lower the speed or current of current flowing. In this we get to know that if we take such a wire which does not have the value of resistance at all, then if the current flows in it then the current will not be reduced. Because the resistance is not in the thing in which you flowed the current. By the way, you must keep in mind that there is a certain amount of resistance in something. For example, the amount of resistance in plastic is full due to which the current does not flow because the amount of resistance is so high that it stopped the current.

How Resistor Works |
We have explained two examples in the figure, one of which is a greater amount of copper wire wrapped inside the resistor because the smaller wire has less resistance while the second one contains carbon powder or graphite powder inside the resistor. On the outside, as soon as we run a current of 10 amps from one terminal of the resistor, on the other side, the current comes down, that is, 9 amps. The current of 1 amps is reduced, due to the excessive amount of wire being wrapped inside the resistor, due to which the resistance value is also increased. For this reason, the current has decreased, which we have shown with the help of multimeter. But on the other hand, after flowing current of 10 amps inside the resistor made of carbon powder or graphite powder, on the other hand, the current came out very low i.e. 6 amps. The current came down by 4 amps as compared to the other resistor because the value of resistance in this resistor was quite high, that's why.
In the picture you can see that on one side we have installed a resistor which has a large amount of copper wire wrapped already and on the other side there is a resistor with carbon powder inserted inside it. So the amount of resistance in the carbon resistor is the highest, due to which current flowing on one side will be very low, while the resistor wrapped with copper wire is able to reduce the current but only slightly.
In this, you have got to learn that if you want to reduce the current and send it forward, then you will have to increase the resistance value more inside the resistor. So that the resistor can allow the current to go low. If you want the current to be a little less, then such a material will be included inside the resistor, which has a very low resistance value such as gold wire, copper wire etc. We have also told about which resistor where you should install it.
Resistor have polarity or not :
There is no polarity in the resistor i.e. the positive and negative terminals are not inside the resistor. Because of this, you can connect it to any terminal terminal positive and negative terminals of your choice. If the resistor had polarity, then both of its terminals had to be seen, such as connecting the positive terminal to the positive terminal of the battery and the negative terminal of the resistor to the negative terminal of the battery itself. Whereas there are no positive and negative terminals of any kind of polarity inside the resistor. That is why you can connect it any way you like. You should also remember that there are no polarity in all the types of resistor, due to which it can be applied either by straightening or in reverse.
Resistor work on DC or AC :
Due to the lack of polarity inside the resistor, they operate on both current and direct current, due to which there is no need to see about the current and DC current before putting the resistor in a circuit.
Types of Resistor :
There are total three types of resistors such as :
- Fixed resistor
- Carbon composition resistor
- Wire wound resistor
- Thin film resistor
- Carbon film resistor
- Metal film resistor
- Variable resistor
- Potentiometer Resistor
- Rheostates Resistor
- Trimmer Resistor
- Dependent resistor
- LDR Resistor
- VDR Resistor
- Thermistors
What is fixed resistor :
Fixed resistors are those resistors whose resistance value is fixed and its resistance value cannot be reduced or increased. But you do not think that the resistance value of the fixed resistor will not change at all. This does not happen because there is a slight difference in the value of the resistor when the temperature is higher or lower. There is only a difference of about 5 percent. Some circuits are such that within which current needs to be increased or reduced, in such a situation, the fixed resistor does not work because we cannot increase or decrease its resistance value.
The types of fixed resistors are also several, which we are going to tell one by one, which is as follows :
- Carbon composition resistor
- Wire wound resistor
- Thin film resistor
- Carbon film resistor
- Metal film resistor
- What is Carbon composition resistor :
The resistor inside which carbon powder is used is called carbon composition resistor. Because both carbon powders are collected inside this resistor and attached to both terminals giving it a thin lead-like shape. Using carbon powder instead of wire in the middle of this resistor reduces the amount of current considerably. However, carbon composition resistors are less stable. This means that the resistance value of this resistor changes and this happens only when the temperature is up and down. For example, due to excessive cooling of this resistor, current will flow in a small amount while current will flow in large amount when the resistor is heated. To cover the material inside it is coated on this resistor.
- What is Wire wound resistor :
The resistor inside which the wire is wrapped is named wire wound resistor. Wrapped wire inside some resistor can also be of copper or made of some other material but is of metal. Whereas the wire wound resistor is made of wire in it from any other material like tungsten, manganine, nichrome, nickel chromium allo, nickel etc.
Different wire is used in the wire wound resistor so that the current volume can be controlled i.e. according to how much current is used, the wire is used in the resistor. Wire wound The wire is wrapped in a large amount inside the resistor so that the value of resistance can be higher because the longer the wire is, the higher the value of resistance keeps on increasing the resistance of the resistor.
The wire wound is the first rod inside the resistor and the wire is wrapped on the same rod. While the rod may be made of different materials such as press bond paper, ceramic, ceramic clay etc. But wire wound resistor is high because of which it is used less, but these resistors are very useful in high frequency devices.
- What is Thin film resistor :
The resistor inside which the carbon is thinned and coated on the insulating rod means that the carbon layer is thin, it has been named as the thin film resistor. Apart from this, only a thin layer of metal is used to use metal because it has been named as thin resistor. By the way, there are two types of thin film resistors which we have described further, which are as follows :
- What is Carbon film resistor :
Carbon film resistors are slightly different from ordinary resistors such that current does not flow from the interstitial space inside this resistor because the middle rod is the insulating rod which is made of high grade ceramic. The carbon applied on the same insulating rod contributes greatly to reduce the current and carbon is applied as a coating only by thinning on the same insulating rod. While both terminals of the resistor are connected with a coating of carbon powder. But this resistor is not covered with the help of carbon because it is coated separately to cover the carbon film resistor.
- What is Metal film resistor :
Resistors that work correctly when the temperature is low or high are only metal film resistors because metal is used inside it. Because the metal does not have much effect due to cold or overheating, ie there is only a slight change in the resistance value. Inside the metal film resistor, thin sheets of metal are wrapped or hung above the insulating rod and the same sheets are attached to both terminals to reduce current. The use of metal film resistors works much better in devices that heat up quickly.
- What is Thick Film Resistor :
The type of resistor in which carbon coating or thick layer of metal is used to shed the current inside the resistor is called thick film resistor. However, the number of thick film resistors is not one, but many, which are as follows :
- What is Metal film resistor :
Inside the metal film resistor, the glass rod is replaced by the insulating rod. But it does not work to excuse the current. Whereas, the work of shedding or reducing the current is only of the metal tin chloride which is applied on the glass. The reason for this is that the resistance value of this resistor does not change much even after the temperature is too hot or if the temperature is too high.
- What is Fusible Resistor :
The fusible resistor is considered to be a type of protection resistor because there is a thin wire inside it which acts to give protection to the circuit when suddenly voltage comes into the circuit from outside. Due to the high voltage, the fusible resistor itself gets damaged so that the circuit is not rotten and not damaged, the whole circuit is not damaged and it acts like a fuse.
- What is Cermet Oxide Resistor :
Sermat oxide resistors are also called Sermat film resistors and they are made of resistors made of ceramic and metal material such as ceremic and metal by mixing the rod and after that it is connected to both the terminals. The coating is done on top of this rod so that the rod can be covered. Sermet resistors are considered to be very easy to operate resistors at high temperatures, so the temperature increases in high voltage devices and the Sermat oxide resistor is brought in use.
Use of Fixed Resistor :
Fixed resistor is used where the resistance value is only fixed, ie the current flow has to be limited. As much as you want the current to flow only 1amps or not less, the fixed resistor comes in handy because its resistance value is fixed, due to which it will allow the same amount of current to flow.
Variable Resistor :
There are some devices that need to reduce or increase the current flow, such as in microwave ovens, television, sound systems, etc. To control the current flow, only the resistance value has to be changed. So in this case only the variable resistor but the variable resistor are used. The biggest feature of a variable resistor is that we can reduce or increase its resistance value. Due to this specialty, it can be used anywhere. To reduce or increase the resistance value of a variable resistor, a small rod or hole is seen next to it and the resistance value is changed by rotating the same rod or hole. There are many more ahead of the variable resistor, which we are going to tell about below, which is as follows:
- What is Potentio meter resistor :
The most commonly used resistor is because it is used for two tasks, such as the first task is to reduce the voltage while the second is to reduce the current by sending amps forward. You may have seen it somewhere and in the speaker it is used to reduce or decrease the voice. To reduce or increase the voltage or current, a rod is placed at the forefront of this resistor, which can be reduced or increased only after rotating. The potentio meter resistor has a total of three terminals. While two of these terminals are mostly used, the third terminal is used only inside the equipment.
- What is Rheostates resistor :
Rheostates resistors are long and large in size. These resistors cannot come in a small device. That is why these resistors are used only in big devices. A large amount of wire is wrapped inside the rheostates resistor to reduce or increase current flow. Rheostates resistors also come inside the variable resistor, ie the resistance value can be reduced or increased.
- What is Trimmer resistor :
The trimmer resistor can be seen in microwave oven, television etc. The trimmer resistor is so small in size that to reduce or decrease the resistance value, a small hole is given over it so that you can reduce or decrease the resistance value of the trimmer resistor according to yourself. This picture you are seeing is a trimmer resistor drawn from inside the microwave oven. There are a total of 3 terminals provided in the resistor.
Use of variable resistor :
In devices where the voltage or current needs to be reduced or exceeded, the variable resistor is brought into use only. Because we can change its resistance value again and again. In devices such as sound systems, they are easily seen to reduce or decrease the current flow because it affects the voice of the speaker itself, ie the sound is less and more.
Dependent Resistor :
Dependent resistors are called resistors that work dependent on others such as being dependent on temperature, dependent on light, etc. It works and does not even after being dependent on others, that is why it has been called a dependent resistor. There are also three types of dependent resistor, which are as follows :
- What is LDR Resistor :
LDR resistor is called light dependent resistor whereas it is also called photo resistor. The LDR resistor works only when it is highlighted. The LDR controls the current of current when it is illuminated. But the current flow will be low or fast, it depends on the dependent light, ie the resistance value of the LDR resistor changes only when the light is low or high.
- What is VDR resistor :
By the way, the name of this resistor is full voltage dependent resistor which depends entirely on the voltage, hence it is named VDR resistor. But its job is to control the current flow. All the work of controlling the current depends on the voltage itself, that is, the sudden increase and decrease of voltage inside the circuit causes a change in the resistance value inside the VDR resistor and the same change in current controls the current flow comes in.
- What is Thermistors :
tremprature Dependent resistor is the full name of this resistor and it is known by this name that thermistors resistor depends entirely on temperature. For example, the resistance value of the thermistor is low or high due to the low or high temperature so that the work in the circuit can be done correctly.
Use of dependent resistor :
A resistor whose value has to be changed repeatedly but according to the situation. As the temperature is low, the resistance value has to be reduced. So in such a situation that the value of resistance has not to be changed again and again, the dependent resistor is brought into use so that the work is done automatically according to the temperature, voltage and light.
Use of Resistor :
- Resistor is used to reduce current flow or current.
- Resistor is used to protect the circuit from sudden current.
Where Resistor is Used :
Resistor is used in many devices and it is used in devices that need less current while the current is more than outside and the names of those devices are as follows:
- In motherboard
- In inverter
- In television
- In monitor
- in charger
- In the microwave oven etc.
However, in addition to this, resistor is installed in many devices, but there are many tools, due to which this article will also become very long. That is why we have told about only a few devices.
Advantages of Resistor :
- The task of reducing current or reducing current flow is with the Resistor.
- Resistor is able to work on both AC current and DC current.
- The resistor also reduces the voltage to some extent.
- The price of the Resistor is very low which you can easily buy.
- It also works because the resistor is not dependent on the voltage.
- Resistor does not last long
- Resistors also become very hot quickly.
- Resistor is very small in size
Drawbacks of Resistor :
- When the temperature is higher or lower, the Ohms value of the resistor decreases slightly and more.
- When the resistor lowers the current and sends it forward, some amount of power is wasted.
- The voltage also decreases due to the resistor to some extent.
- Not getting the fixed resistance value from the resistor, that is, to see a difference of up to 10 percent if the temperature is more or less
- Resistors are very small in size
